Land in Labuan Bajo the day before your boat leaves. Two agents, Salam Ransel and Komodo Island Tour, advise exactly that, and the reason is practical: one operator waits only 20 minutes past meeting time before a missed departure costs you the whole trip amount, and one agent's terms say late arrivals forfeit.
Where do boats leave from?
Labuan Bajo, in nearly every case you are likely to come across. Komodo Resort's charter guide names the harbour there as the departure point for most charters, in the town whose airport serves Komodo. Wikipedia places the town at the western end of Flores, as the capital of West Manggarai Regency in East Nusa Tenggara.
The harbour is a starting point for your planning and does not tell you where to stand on the morning. We cannot name one pier or meeting point for all boats, because that depends on the boat. Some sellers collect you, and others expect you to make your own way to a meeting point, so ask for the exact location in writing, along with the time and a phone number that works on the day.
How early should you land?
The day before, on the advice of the two agents below, though one operator plans for the same morning. Salam Ransel tells guests to be in town one day ahead, and Komodo Island Tour highly recommends the same. Both are sellers, and the late-guest terms below explain the caution. One open-trip listing from Komodo Trips prints 10.00 to 11.00 and 12.00 to 13.00 beside its last stop, which may describe that day alone, so get your own departure time from the seller. The more useful question is what a delay would cost you.
| Plan | What it gives you | What it risks |
|---|---|---|
| Land the day before | Margin for a delayed flight, and time to settle details face to face | One extra hotel night, which one seller's price explicitly excludes |
| Land the same morning | One less hotel night | Any delay comes straight out of the time before your meeting point |
| Land after the meeting time | Nothing that we can see | The terms below treat this as a missed departure |
| Fly out the afternoon the boat returns | A shorter trip away | A late boat puts your flight in question |
| Stay a night after the boat returns | Margin for a late return or a changed flight | One more hotel night |
One traveller writing on Mini Adventures took the cautious route on both sides, with an extra night ashore before and after the tour in case flights were disrupted. That is one person's choice, and it is a sensible template if your boat is the main reason for the journey. Budget for the room yourself unless told otherwise: a Phinisi Trip package page leaves the flight ticket and the hotel in town out of its price.
Can you fly in on the morning the boat leaves?
On some boats that is the normal plan. Moana Cruising, a liveaboard, says 90 per cent of its guests fly from Bali to Labuan Bajo on the first day of the trip. It asks them to land by 11:00, points to morning flights from Bali at around 7:30 or 8:00, and allows flights out from 12:30 on the last day. That runs against the day-before advice from Salam Ransel and Komodo Island Tour. Each describes its own practice.
So the answer belongs to your boat. Ask three things: the latest landing time it accepts, whether pick-up waits for a delayed flight, and what its terms say about a missed boarding. If a seller cannot state the first of those, book the night before.
What happens if you are late?
On the published terms we have read, you lose the trip. Sellers word this differently, but they point the same way.
| Seller | Rule |
|---|---|
| Dive Komodo (operator) | Waits up to 20 minutes past meeting time; a missed departure forfeits the whole trip amount |
| Komodo Trips (agent) | Late arrivals forfeit |
| Dive Komodo (operator) | Under force majeure terms, consequential losses such as flights are excluded |
| Samara Liveaboard (operator) | Since 22 September 2026, an e-ticket for the park is valid only on its printed date |
A shared boat has good reason to hold firm, since other guests are aboard. Those are the Dive Komodo and Komodo Trips rules; others may be gentler, so read yours. Even if a seller could get you to the boat later, Samara Liveaboard's point about dates means a park ticket might not move with you. Notice lines for cancelling ahead of time are a different matter, covered on our cancellation terms page.
If a delay looks likely, tell the seller and the boat as soon as you know, using the number you were given. Do not assume that a message sent from the departure gate will be read before the boat leaves. Salam Ransel says signal is limited around the islands, so a crew already under way may not see it.
Are transfers in the fare?
Sometimes, and you need to check. Sources for shared and private trips disagree enough to make a general answer useless.
| Source | Trip type | What it says about getting to the boat |
|---|---|---|
| Salam Ransel | Shared | Pick-up in Labuan Bajo typically included |
| Phinisi Trip | Shared, one boat | Return airport or hotel transfer included |
| Komodo Trips | Shared, one listing | Travel to the meeting point excluded |
| Komodo Resort | Private charter | Transfers in a typical rate |
| Tripadvisor listing | Private, one boat | Transfers included |
Those lines tell you what is included, but not how it runs. When a transfer is in the fare, ask whether it collects from the airport, from your hotel or from both, at what time, and whom you phone if the car is not there. A transfer built around a flight arriving on the morning of departure is a different promise from a hotel pick-up the morning after you have landed. Listings like the one on Tripadvisor are short on this detail, so the question has to come from you.
What should you do on arrival?
Use the spare afternoon to remove the small risks. The checklist below draws on seller guidance for each point:
- Reconfirm the meeting time and place. Listed times are tentative on the Komodo Trips itinerary, so get the current time for your departure from the seller.
- Check your park registration details. Casa de Capulet says names on a QR ticket must match the passport. Neptune Liveaboards says a passenger change or renewed passport has to reach the operator quickly. If you have renewed a passport since sending your details, say so at once.
- Get your cash ready. Neptune Liveaboards says that on its boats park charges are paid in cash on board or at embarkation. Dive Komodo's terms have you handing over ranger fees in cash ashore before the walk. Salam Ransel lists cash for park fees among the things to bring.
- Know what balance you still owe. Under Komodo Trips' terms the boat organiser takes the balance on the day of departure, so the amount and method should be clear before you leave town.
- Sort out your phone. Salam Ransel says Telkomsel has the best coverage in Flores. Send anyone who needs them your boat's name and your return time while you still have signal.
- Finish your packing. Our packing guide covers what to bring, and town is the last convenient place to fill the gaps.
Your passport details ought to have gone in much earlier. Our booking guide gives the order of steps, and arrival day is too late to begin that process. If the sea or the harbour stops boats while you are in town, our page on bad weather sets out who decides and what happens next.
What else do readers ask before flying to Labuan Bajo?
Do Komodo cabin charters leave from Labuan Bajo?
Most do, according to Komodo Resort's guide, which points to the harbour in the town whose airport serves Komodo. The exact meeting point depends on the boat, so ask your seller to write it down for you.
Can I fly in on the morning my boat leaves?
You can on some boats. Moana Cruising plans for it and asks guests to land by 11:00, while both agents named above recommend arriving a day early. Check what your seller does about late guests before you choose.
Who arranges my transfer to the boat?
That depends on the seller. Phinisi Trip includes a transfer from airport or hotel for one boat, whereas a Komodo Trips listing leaves the journey to the meeting point to you. Ask for the pick-up place and time in writing, along with a phone number for the day.
What happens if my flight is delayed and I miss the boat?
Expect to lose the trip, on the terms we read. Dive Komodo forfeits the whole trip amount for a missed departure, and Komodo Trips says late arrivals forfeit. Your travel insurance may help, so check its wording before you fly.
How do I confirm the departure time?
Ask your seller the day before and keep the reply. Green Rinjani says the local boat operator handles logistics when an agent has made the booking, so an agent may need to check with the boat. Treat any time in a listing as provisional.
Which sources support this page?
Advice on arrival comes from the agents and the traveller named, and each late-guest rule belongs to its seller. These sources give no flight timetable and no pier-by-pier meeting list.

How do I reach the desk?
Send your flight times, your boat and the time you have been given. WhatsApp +62 811-3941-4563 or email bd@juaraholding.com. Your passport can stay out of that first message. The desk can point out a tight connection, and the time to rely on is the one your seller puts in writing.
Send the desk your dates, group size, and cabin or whole-boat preference. The desk replies in writing.
