Sourced figures: rates in the table carry their source and check month. Most are published by a single seller for a single boat, so they are not a market price, and nothing here is legal advice.

A private phinisi charter in Komodo has no market price. Published whole-boat rates change with the seller, the boat, the number of nights and the guest band, and the price table on this page sets them out by seller. Park tickets, ranger fees and crew tips usually sit on top, so compare written totals.

What do sellers publish for a private phinisi?

They publish four kinds of number under one heading, and only the first kind below is a rate for a specific boat at a stated headcount. Komodo Resort, in its charter guide, defines what is being priced: you hire the vessel, its captain and its crew for a set period, you pay by the boat, and the route is settled with the operator. Komodo Trips, an agent, states the same basis in its terms, with packages per person and charters per boat. Every private row in the price table follows that rule, so read each figure as a bill for the boat. The per-cabin alternative, priced by the person, is explained in our Komodo cabin charter guide and in how a cabin charter works.

What do sellers publish for a private phinisi?
SellerLengthGuest basis printedWhat the figure is
Asik Travel (agent)2D1N on the AkassaUp to 4 guests; 5 to 10 guestsPublished rate for a named boat
Asik Travel (agent)3D2N on the Giona1 to 5 guests; 10 guestsPublished rate for a named boat
Labuan Bajo Tourism (agent)3D2N on one traditional phinisiUp to 10 guests in the base pricePublished rate for one boat
Komodo Resort (operator guide)3D2N on a standard wooden phinisiNo headcount in the rowAn estimate, not a fare
Tripadvisor listing (marketplace)3 days4 guestsA from-price, in US dollars
Phinisi Trip (agent)4D3NTotal boat, no headcount in the rowBands the agent labels deluxe and luxury

Read by length, these rows look out of step. As published, the two-day Akassa figures sit above the three-day Giona figures, and the lower end of Phinisi Trip's four-day deluxe band falls below both. Asik Travel and Labuan Bajo Tourism are one seller, and their 3D2N rows stand far apart. We print these rows as they appear and build no advice on them, so open the source before you rely on any of them, and ask a seller to name the boat behind any figure it quotes.

Two limits on the table. The Tripadvisor row stays in US dollars, so it cannot be ranked against the rupiah rows without a rate of your own. And each row describes what was on the page when we checked it, not next year's fare.

Why is one rate quoted for several guest counts?

Because most of the cost of running the boat does not move when one more person boards. Asik Travel gives the reason for its own rates: crew, fuel and galley cost the same with two guests or ten. A guest band is how a seller prints that fact. Inside the band you pay one figure, and at the band's edge the printed figure steps up.

Bands answer fewer questions than they appear to, so put these to the seller before you divide anything:

  • What is the rate at my exact number? The Giona's two printed bands leave several headcounts unanswered, and Labuan Bajo Tourism's wording, "in the base price", suggests a charge above ten that the row does not state.
  • Who counts as a guest? Neptune Liveaboards bills a child of any age as an adult, on the grounds that each passenger has to be declared to the harbour authorities. That is one operator's rule, on its own trips. Your seller may count differently, and the only way to know is to ask.
  • Does the band match the beds? A band sets a price. It does not tell you how many cabins the boat has or who ends up in a shared bunk room, so ask for the cabin plan at your headcount; our guide to cabin lists shows how to read one.
  • Is the rate tied to a date? A peak-month line, if a seller adds one, is that seller's own. Have it written against your date.

The sum that follows, boat rate divided by headcount and set beside shared fares, has its own walk-through in which group size makes a private charter pay off. For the non-price trade-offs, see the side-by-side of cabin and private charters. Shared fares for that sum are on our cabin charter cost page.

What does a private rate leave out?

Mostly the lines that grow with people or with activity. Here are the two clearest statements we have, one from a guide describing a typical charter and one from a single marketplace listing. The shared-fare version of this list is in our inclusions comparison.

This line is often left outside the rate, on the listings cited. Neptune Liveaboards reports one flat ticket for foreign visitors per person per day under a 2024 regulation, and that reported figure is the last row of the price table. Samara Liveaboard counts the ticket per park day, so the sum is guests multiplied by days inside the park.

Rangers come on top as a separate line. Dive Komodo says the fee is collected in cash on the island before the trek, and Samara Liveaboard says it is charged per group of up to five, which matters more for a boat of ten than for a couple. The arithmetic and the disputed conservation and harbour lines are in park fees on a charter.

Two boat-side items deserve a direct question. Neptune Liveaboards reports that since June 2026 West Manggarai Regency has tied sailing clearance to settlement of its taxes, so ask whether your rate already carries that charge. And "fuel for the agreed route" invites a follow-up: ask what happens to the bill if your party adds a stop.

How do payment terms differ for charters?

No single schedule is standard. The two statements below do different jobs.

How do payment terms differ for charters?
SourceWhat it saysKind of statement
Neptune LiveaboardsThree stages for groups and charters: 10 per cent, a further 20 per cent, then whatever remainsThat operator's own terms
Komodo ResortHalf up front, the rest roughly a month ahead of sailingCalled "one common arrangement" in a guide

The instalments matter because of what happens to them later. Neptune Liveaboards treats group and charter payments as non-refundable, so on its terms every stage you pay is money you will not see again if the group pulls out. Before you admire a low first instalment, check how sellers treat cancellation, and use our page on booking deposits for card charges and currency. On a request made through this desk, the offer itself states any fee and its payment terms.

Why does the same boat appear at different prices?

Because several sellers can list one boat, and each sets its own figure, as Komodo Resort cautions. It does not say why each agent lands where it does. What you can do is make two offers comparable. The same guide's short list is the vessel's name, pictures of the cabins you would really use, and both the route and the price on paper. Add the items that change the bill on a whole-boat sale:

  • Number of nights, with the start and end time of the trip.
  • The headcount the rate covers, and the charge for any guest above it.
  • Each line from the table above, marked as in or out.
  • The currency, and who bears any card charge.
  • The party that takes your money and the party that operates the boat, if they differ.

If a seller will not name the boat, you cannot run this check at all. Our booking guide gives the order of the remaining steps.

A word on our own position. The rows on this page are other sellers' figures, not our offers. A request sent here can end in a charter marketing contract with PT Komodo Bahari Nusantara, so we have a stake in how you read them. Put that paper through the same five checks, and read the disclaimer for the rest. The mechanics of hiring a boat are covered in how a whole-boat charter works.

How do you build a total from a private quote?

Work from the boat outwards, and write down one number per line so nothing gets counted twice.

  1. Take the boat rate for your exact headcount, for the exact nights.
  2. Add the park ticket: guests, multiplied by days inside the park, at the rate the seller confirms.
  3. Add ranger fees for each island walk, asking how many groups your party makes.
  4. Add what your party will really use: diving, a drone permit, alcohol.
  5. Add crew tips and travel insurance, which the Tripadvisor listing leaves to you.
  6. Note anything the seller could not answer. Those blanks belong in the comparison too.

Run the same six lines on each quote before you compare. A boat with the higher headline rate can come out level once the other seller's exclusions are counted, and the reverse happens as well.

What else do groups ask about private charter prices?

Is a private phinisi charter priced per person or per boat?

Per boat. Komodo Trips states in its terms that charter prices are per boat, and Komodo Resort describes the same basis. A per-person figure on a private quote is only that rate divided by your headcount, so ask for the boat total.

Does a 2D1N private charter cost less than a 3D2N one?

Not on every published row. The Akassa's two-day rates sit above the Giona's three-day rates, and those are different boats. We draw no rule from that, so check both at the source, and compare two lengths on one boat before you conclude anything about nights.

Are park fees included in a private charter rate?

Rarely. Komodo Resort calls it very unusual for them to sit in a boat rate, and a Tripadvisor private listing excludes them as well. Ask for them as a separate line, so you can see the guests and park days behind the figure.

Can I get 2027 rates for a private charter here?

No. We have not found 2027 rates from third-party sellers, so the rows reflect the month shown beside them. Ask any seller for the year in writing, with the boat name and the headcount the rate covers.

Will the desk match a rate shown on this page?

No. These are other sellers' published figures. The desk can talk through what they mean. This site holds no rates of its own to match, and only a written offer commits anyone to anything.

Which published prices did we check?

Public rates and fees from third-party sellers and guides, each with its source and the month we checked it. Most of these are published rates for one seller or one boat, not a market average, and they can change without notice; check the source before you rely on a figure.
