Sourced figures: rates in the table carry their source and check month. Most are published by a single seller for a single boat, so they are not a market price, and nothing here is legal advice.

On the listings we have seen, Komodo cabin charters are most commonly sold as 3D2N, and that is the sensible default. One agent compares 51 boats at that length and 4 at 2D1N, while another says its open trips come only as 3D2N. A 2D1N fits a tight schedule if you can find one. On the phinisi agents cited, a 4D3N means a private boat or a trip toward Lombok.

Which lengths do sellers offer?

Five lengths appear in listings, and sellers do not agree on which ones exist as shared trips. That disagreement is the first thing to know, because a seller's statement about "the market" usually describes its own range.

Which lengths do sellers offer?
LengthSold howWhat sellers say
One dayShared boat or speedboatSalam Ransel has day tours leaving daily and shared overnight boats leaving once a week
2D1NShared, on some boats; private on othersSalam Ransel: selected boats only, with 4 on its comparison list. Phinisi Trip: not on open trips in its range
3D2NShared or privateSalam Ransel compares 51 shared boats. Phinisi Trip says this is the only open-trip length on its range
4D3NPrivate, or a one-route shared tripPhinisi Trip: 4D3N means a private charter. Salam Ransel: also sells a 4D3N Komodo to Lombok trip
Longer yacht departuresScheduled shared departures on yachts and small liveaboardsNavélia: its Komodo cabin charters usually run 3 to 5 nights. Moana Cruising: six days and five nights

The two agents contradict each other on 2D1N and on 4D3N, and we are not going to settle it for them. Both may be accurate about what they sell. Those counts also come from one company's comparison list and do not amount to a census of the harbour, so ask about the boat in front of you. Where their statements overlap is 3D2N, which is where both put their shared boats.

The price table on this page has one row per format, and the rows do not compare directly: Salam Ransel's one-day and 3D2N rows are per person, while the Akassa 2D1N row from Asik Travel is a whole-boat rate. You cannot read a price per night across them. Shared 2D1N fares are not among the rows here, so request one from any seller offering that length.

What does the extra night add?

On the sellers' own account, it adds slack more than it adds sights. Salam Ransel describes 2D1N as adding a night on board and the Kalong sunset to a day tour, and 3D2N as the most relaxed option, with more snorkelling. Komodo Touristic, another agent, calls 3D2N the ideal for a relaxing trip and cautions that a day on a speedboat moves quickly and can wear you out. Keep in mind that both sell the longer trips.

A traveller's account points the other way, at least for a day trip. The writer at Mini Adventures says a one-day boat covers most of the activities of the two-night trip, with the Kalong bats the main element missing. So an extra night buys time on the water and an evening at anchor more than it buys a longer list of names.

A real itinerary shows what "three days" means. This one comes from a Komodo Trips open-trip listing, which labels itself tentative.

What does the extra night add?
DayStops on this one listingTiming
Day 1Kelor, Manjarite, KalongNot stated
Day 2Padar, Long Pink Beach, Komodo Island, Taka Makassar, Manta Ray PointNot stated
Day 3KanawaPrints 10.00 to 11.00 and 12.00 to 13.00

Two things stand out. The clock times sit beside the last stop and may describe that day alone, so get your own departure and return times, and check your flights against those rather than the label. And the second day is the one carrying the headline stops. Boats differ too: a TourRadar listing sends guests to Rinca rather than Komodo Island for the dragons, so check where the dragon stop falls on your own trip. A typical daily schedule goes through what an on-board day involves.

Should you count nights rather than days?

Yes. A 3D2N trip has two nights aboard, and its first and last days are partial: the Komodo Trips listing above gives its whole last day to one stop, Kanawa. Hello Flores, a booking platform, makes the same point about the day count, then goes further and says it does not recommend fewer than three nights aboard, because nights aboard decide how much of the park is covered. Navélia puts its Komodo cabin charters at 3 to 5 nights, and Moana Cruising sells five.

All three sell longer trips, so treat that as a commercial view. Phinisi Trip sells 3D2N as its only open format, and the Mini Adventures writer found that a single day covered most of the activities. Compare two offers by nights aboard first, then by the named stops on each, which tells you more than the label on the front of the listing.

Is 2D1N easy to find as a shared trip?

Not as easy as 3D2N. Four boats against 51 on one agent's comparison list gives you the rough proportion for that list, and another agent has none at all. In practice you will have fewer boats and fewer departure dates to choose from. Salam Ransel says shared 2D1N and 3D2N trips leave weekly, with each boat keeping its own departure days.

A short trip can also expose you to whatever is left. One traveller's 2D1N was on a budget boat with a shared bunk room, an account set out under sharing a cabin on an open trip. One boat proves nothing about the rest, but a thin choice leaves less room to reject a cabin you do not like. If you only have two days, be ready to weigh the cabin harder than the route, or to look at a day trip as the alternative. Liveaboard or day trip covers that decision.

When does 4D3N make sense?

In two situations, on the evidence we have. The first is a journey. Salam Ransel's Komodo to Lombok trip gets you somewhere, so it suits travellers moving on to Lombok, provided you check where it ends and arrange your onward plans around that port. Treat it as one agent's product and confirm the route for your date.

The second is a private group that wants a slower pace. Phinisi Trip treats 4D3N as a private format, and its bands for that length are set out on our page on private phinisi rates. Since the itinerary on a private boat is agreed with the operator, an added day can go to whatever your group cares about. Weigh the running costs as well. Samara Liveaboard counts the park ticket per day in the park, so a day added inside the park means one more ticket per guest, unless the seller says the fare already carries it.

How do night rules affect a short trip?

They remove the option of covering distance after dark in risky spots. The Labuan Bajo harbour authority barred night movement of tourist boats in risky spots such as the Padar Strait, as Metro TV reported, with boats sailing in the morning or daytime and sheltering at anchor at night. A longer itinerary can absorb a slow morning. A 2D1N has far fewer daylight hours to reach everything, so a late start or a rough afternoon has fewer ways to be made up.

Salam Ransel leaves the order of stops to the captain and guide when conditions shift, and Dive Komodo reserves the same room to alter a program for weather or safety. On a short trip, an altered route may cost a stop you came for. We have not found sourced sailing times between Labuan Bajo and the main islands, so we will not tell you how far a 2D1N can reach. Ask your seller which stop goes first if the day runs short.

How should you choose?

Start with your flights, then the stop you care about most. This table is our own reading of the points above, not a seller's advice.

Whichever you pick, count the shore nights too. For the format itself, see our Komodo cabin charter overview. Salam Ransel tells guests to reach Labuan Bajo the day before, and that spare night is part of the real length of your trip.

What else do readers ask about trip length?

What is the most common length for a Komodo cabin charter?

3D2N, on the listings we have seen. Salam Ransel compares 51 shared boats at that length against 4 at 2D1N, and Phinisi Trip says 3D2N is the only open-trip length on its range. Treat both as one agent's view.

Is 2D1N long enough to see Komodo?

We cannot say from sourced sailing times. One Mini Adventures writer judged that even a one-day boat covers most of what the two-night trip does, apart from the Kalong bats, so ask which stops your boat plans.

Can I book a shared 4D3N trip?

Sometimes. Phinisi Trip says 4D3N on its range means a private charter, while Salam Ransel sells a 4D3N Komodo to Lombok trip. Ask whether a shared 4D3N is running on your dates, and where it ends.

Does a longer trip cost more in park fees?

Yes. Samara Liveaboard says the ticket is charged per person for each day inside the park, so each added park day adds a ticket for each guest. Ask the seller how many park days your itinerary counts.

Are departure days fixed?

Yes, on shared boats. Salam Ransel says each boat keeps its own weekly departure days, and Phinisi Trip lists Friday to Sunday and Monday to Wednesday on 3D2N. Check the day of the week before you book flights.

Which published prices did we check?

Public rates and fees from third-party sellers and guides, each with its source and the month we checked it. Most of these are published rates for one seller or one boat, not a market average, and they can change without notice; check the source before you rely on a figure.
