No single number applies, because each seller describes its own boat: Green Rinjani gives 12 to 16 participants on its 3-day tour and one TourRadar listing gives a group size of 6 to 20. To confirm capacity, get the boat name, the cabin count and the maximum guests for your departure in writing.

How many cabins do shared boats list?

Cabin counts appear on only some listings, and they vary widely. Salam Ransel's comparison covers 51 boats on shared 3D2N trips and 4 boats on 2D1N. Inside that list it shows a small boat with 3 cabins and a larger one with 10. Komodo Touristic lists a shared boat launched in 2025 with 12 cabins.

The table gathers what these listings say. Each row describes one seller's boat or trip. The smallest and largest figures come from different sellers, so we do not read them as a range for the market.

Notice the wording in that last column. "Up to" is a ceiling. "Usually" is a seller's description of normal practice, and Hello Flores writes as someone selling that cruise. A group size on a marketplace describes one trip. None of them tells you how many people will be aboard on your date, which is why the number has to be asked for.

How many guests do listings allow?

Read the guest figure against the cabin figure, because the pair says more than either one alone. Dividing one listing's maximum guests by its cabins, a sum we did ourselves and the sellers did not:

  • Salam Ransel's smaller boat, 10 guests in 3 cabins: more than three people per cabin when full.
  • Salam Ransel's larger boat, 24 guests in 10 cabins: about two and a half per cabin when full.
  • Komodo Touristic's 2025 boat, up to 35 passengers in 12 cabins: close to three per cabin when full.

So a full boat in any of these three rows has to put more than two people in at least some cabins. Listings show how. A Komodo Trips open-trip listing sets out a mix of Master, Triple and Private cabins, with the Triple taking a queen and a single bunk. Salam Ransel takes solo bookings for one berth in a shared cabin, and will not sell a private one to fewer than two.

The sums also upset an easy assumption. The boat with the fewest guests has the most people per cabin. A small boat can feel uncrowded on deck and still be tight below. Our guide to cabin types, beds and minimums covers what each label tends to mean.

How many guests sail on the larger yacht departures?

Often fewer than on the largest boat above, and closer to two to a cabin. Navélia, a yacht-charter broker that uses the phrase cabin charter for scheduled departures, prints these figures for boats on its list. Those boats also sail Raja Ampat and other regions, so a name on the list does not mean a Komodo date.

Aliikai Voyage40 m714
Mutiara Laut46 m715
Aqua Blu60 m1530

By our own division, that is 2 to 2.4 guests per cabin when full, at or below the sums on the boats above. Hello Flores draws a similar line in general terms, with 15 to 25 or more guests on budget-leaning shared trips and 8 to 16 on mid-range ones, and Moana Cruising caps its own boat at 10. These are seller figures for a few boats, so confirm the count for your departure.

Why does boat size change the trip?

Because almost everything outside your cabin is shared. Hello Flores sums up one cruise this way: your room, bed and bathroom are your own, and meals, activities and the day's schedule belong to everyone. How a cabin charter works explains that model in full. Here is what the headcount does to it.

Bathrooms. Komodo Touristic's caution is about price: a low fare on an open trip may put you on a mid-size boat with more than 30 others, waiting in line for the bathroom. Its remedy is to ask the capacity before anything else. That warning comes from an agent that sells such trips itself, though the advice costs nothing to follow. Ask how many bathrooms serve the shared cabins, and whether yours has its own. Our comfort guide has more on that.

Deck and shelter. With a large party, a covered space matters more on a wet day, so ask how much of the deck has a roof and how many people it seats.

Pace. Every person on board moves through the same meals and landings. This is our judgement rather than a measurement: a party of eight and a party of thirty will not leave a beach at the same speed.

Company. Komodo Trips' terms call an open trip a random mix of travellers and name lower cost as its main benefit. More people means more chance of good company and less chance of quiet. Which one you want is your call.

No source we can cite gives a crew-to-guest ratio or compares cabin size and lounge space across boats. Photos of the actual boat, requested from the seller, are the nearest substitute.

How do you confirm capacity for your departure?

Ask for two different numbers: what the boat can carry, and what your departure is expected to carry. A seller may answer the first when you need the second. Send these questions together, and ask for the replies in writing:

  1. What is the boat's name?
  2. How many cabins does it have, and how many are shared?
  3. What is the most guests this boat takes on a shared trip?
  4. How many guests are booked on my date so far?
  5. How many people will share my cabin, and could that change after I pay?
  6. How many bathrooms serve the shared cabins?
  7. Is there a minimum age?
  8. What happens if few guests book?

The last question matters because Dive Komodo lists low participation among its reasons for altering an itinerary, without a headcount, so the seller's answer is the only one you will get. The count can also move after you book. Ask again shortly before your balance is due, when the number should be firmer. Neptune Liveaboards mentions that every passenger has to be declared to the harbour authorities, so your boat's operator will have a passenger list by sailing time, even if an agent cannot say beforehand.

Which questions about capacity come up often?

How many people are on a shared Komodo phinisi?

It depends on the boat, and sellers publish only their own figures. Hello Flores gives 8 to 16 guests as usual on one cruise, while Komodo Touristic lists one boat with a capacity of 32 to 35 passengers.

Can a shared boat carry more than 30 people?

Yes. Komodo Touristic lists a 12-cabin boat for 32 to 35 passengers and cautions that some low-priced open trips carry more than 30. Ask the capacity of the named boat before you pay.

Does a smaller boat mean fewer people in each cabin?

No. On Salam Ransel's list the smaller boat fits up to 10 guests in 3 cabins, which works out at more people per cabin than the larger boat with up to 24 guests in 10 cabins. Check cabins as well as guests.

Is there a minimum number of guests before a shared trip sails?

We have no published figure to give you. Low participation can alter an itinerary, by Dive Komodo's terms, so ask your seller what happens to your trip and your payment if few guests book.

Who can confirm the guest count on my date?

The boat's operator is the most likely to know, and an agent should be able to ask on your behalf. Green Rinjani, for example, says logistics rest with the local boat operator. Ask for the current count in writing and ask again before the balance is due.

Which sources support this page?

Each capacity figure above belongs to the seller named in the row and describes that seller's boat or trip, as published when we checked in November 2026.
